Three makers, three episodes
Fieldnotes is a self-initiated documentary mini-series following independent makers — a letterpress printer, a boat builder and an urban beekeeper. Each eight-minute episode observes a full working week, letting craft and character carry the story.
The series doubles as our calling card for documentary and branded-content work: patient, observational and beautifully graded.
Real life ignores scripts
Observational filming means no second takes and no control over the weather, the workflow or the mood. The printer’s press broke down mid-week; the beekeeper’s hives swarmed on camera day. Both became the best scenes in the series.
Patience as a method
One camera, available light, long lenses and days of simply being there until people forgot us. Interviews were recorded as working conversations, not sit-downs — which is why nobody sounds like they are being interviewed.
“It feels like being allowed to stand quietly in someone else’s workshop for a week. The rare branded series people choose to watch.” — Festival programme note, Northlight Docs
